THE DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM (DPP)

What is the Diabetes Prevention Program?

The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a 12-month, evidence-based lifestyle change program designed to help you prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.

Developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this program focuses on making realistic, sustainable changes to your daily habits.

You will learn how to:

  • Eat healthier without giving up the foods you love

  • Increase your physical activity

  • Lose a modest amount of weight (5–7%)

  • Build habits that last a lifetime

Who Should Join?

 


You may qualify for the program if you:

  • Are age 18 or older

  • Have been told you have prediabetes

  • Have a high score on a diabetes risk test

  • Are overweight or have a BMI ≥ 25 (≥23 if Asian)

  • Have a history of gestational diabetes

Participants meet regularly in a supportive group setting to learn, share, and stay motivated throughout the program.

Program Structure

🗓️ Weekly Sessions (Months 1–6)
Build a strong foundation with weekly classes focused on:

  • Nutrition

  • Physical activity

  • Behavior change

  • Stress management

 

🔄 Biweekly Sessions (Months 7–9)
Continue building consistency with:

  • Overcoming plateaus

  • Staying active

  • Adapting to life changes

 

📆 Monthly Sessions (Months 10–12)
Maintain long-term success with:

  • Preventing setbacks

  • Improving sleep

  • Maintaining healthy habits

Track Your Progress


We help you monitor your progress in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

  • ⚖️ Weekly weigh-ins (private and supportive)

  • 📱 Track physical activity and nutrition

  • 🎯 Set realistic, achievable goals

 

🧪 A1c Monitoring

Your blood sugar (A1c) is checked at key points during the program:

  • Beginning (Baseline)

  • Midpoint (around Session 13)

  • End of Program


This allows you to clearly see how your lifestyle changes are improving your health over time.

You’ll receive support from a trained lifestyle coach and a group of individuals working toward similar goals.
